I worked with local high schools to create a nomination process in which I ultimately chose the honorees based on academic achievements, extracurricular activities, volunteer hours and athletic accomplishments.

I wrote this feature on Shattuck-St. Mary's prestigious hockey program for Puck Life, an online magazine local to Canada. This story digs into the program's history, culture, the NHL players the program has produced (such as Sidney Crosby, Jonathan Toews and Zach Parise) and what makes it America's top boarding school hockey program.

I worked with local high schools to create a nomination process in which I ultimately chose the honorees based on academic achievements, extracurricular activities, volunteer hours and athletic accomplishments.

This was no typical alumni fundraiser. The Shattuck St-Mary's/Faribault 2008 Celebrity Hockey Game featured a plethora of NHL players who came together to raise money for the local Faribault Hockey Association. The most interesting thing was how all these pro players continually came back to a small town to play in front of a small crowd. They shared such a unique bond with each other and the town.

The journey these three men took from prep to college to pro hockey was a pleasure to cover. It all culminated at the NHL Draft, which determined where they'd potentially get to live out their pro hockey dreams. I reached them by phone to get their reactions and wrote this story on deadline for a daily newspaper.

This Faribault Daily News sports column gave readers an exclusive look behind the curtains at the locally (and nationally, considering all the NHL players participating) famous Shattuck alumni game. It's the only prep alumni game where you'll find a 70-year-old along the boards with an NHL All-Star, and this column captured both perspectives.

This Faribault Daily News story covered the pipeline between the Shattuck-St. Mary's hockey program and the University of Wisconsin. Badgers head coach Mike Eaves stopped in to watch a SSM practice and visit two players who committed to his program: Derek Stepan and Jordy Murray.
